Microsoft Word Tips:
1. Shrinking a document to fit
If you've created a document and one or two lines spill over unto a new page, you can use the "Shrink to Fit" feature to fit everything on the page. Choose File, Print Preview and click on the Shrink to fit button.
2. Using AutoCorrect to correct commonly misspelled words
Word's AutoCorrect feature is useful for correcting words that you might routinely mistype. Some of the more common typing errors, such as typing "teh" instead of "the", are already included in the list of words it corrects. To see the built-in list of corrections select Tools, AutoCorrect. You can add other words to the list by typing the mistyped word in the "Replace" box and the correct spelling in the "With" box.
3. Changing Your Default Location
you can specify any given folder to be the one in which Word saves or opens documents. By default, Word uses the My Documents folder in Windows. To change this, choose Tools, Options and then click the File Locations tab. Select Documents, and then click Modify to select a new folder.
4. Select to the end of a page
Place the cursor at the location where you would like to begin the selection.
Press the F8 key to enable selection mode
• Press control + page down to move the focus to the end of the current page
• Copy or cut the selected text. Taking either a copy or cut action will disable the selection mode
5. Fancy Underline option
Select the text to be underlined then right-click and select "Font". Now, underneath the "Underline Style" pull down, select your desired underline type. You can use a solid line, dashes, waves, and more. Plus, underneath "Underline Color" you can make underlines in a different color than the normal text color. Check out the "Preview" section to see how your underline will look. When you are done, press "OK" to close the dialog box.
6. Count words in a document
Find out how many word, lines, paragraphs, and pages are in the current document, click the "Tools" menu and select "Word Count".
7. Add hyperlink to document
Click on the "Insert" button and choose "Hyperlink. On the "Insert Hyperlink" dialog box that follows, click on the "Text to display" field and enter the text that you would like visible in your document. Then, underneath "Type the file or Web page name", type in the webpage to which you want the hyperlink to link. When you are done, press "OK" to close the dialog box and see your link inserted in your current document.
