Education Unites with Technology
By EP-Tec Solutions Sdn Bhd
Learning technology has been a challenge for educators, with funding cuts, equipment shortages and teacher attrition making it difficult for many schools to focus on technology education. Fortunately, many decision makers at state and district levels are determined to make sure our youth understand how critical technology is. Texas is no exception.
In Texas, many of the Texas Education Service Centers (ESC) have met these technology education challenges head on. The Education Service Centers are evaluated on the progress of students on state tests, along with shouldering the responsibility of teacher training – a mission many organizations would shy away from. Their primary goal is to help teachers with their professional development so students better understand technology and how it affects their lives.
Texas Education Service Centers have forged strategic partnerships with individuals and organizations to ensure they meet their technology education goals. Some Education Service Centers have chosen to implement such solutions as LearnKey, a learning portal that currently delivers powerful professional development training to participating staff members and many teachers.
As part of the total solution, this training program is a resource for educators to reach their technology education goals. With online streaming content, teachers and staff members will now have the ability to train at their own pace, on their own schedules. Choosing solutions that can be integrated into people’s day-to-day lives is essential. “Since we have many rural schools, we really like training that can be used from home even when the only internet connection is a dial-up modem,” stated Susan Mullis, Director of Texas ESC 6. She continues, “High gasoline prices are driving (no pun intended) teachers toward on-line learning.”
But Texas educators aren’t alone in their continuing effort to increase staff development quality through technology education. The Miami-Dade English Center is also constantly looking for new ways to improve education, and has recently implemented a staff development program that incorporates LearnKey Expert Learning Solutions into their curriculum. Educators throughout the country are finding that online learning portals offer effective supplemental information in the classroom.
We constantly hear the echo in the halls at the schools we are working with about the need for helpful resources. Teachers and staff are embracing new curriculum supplements and just in time training as effective teaching companions. As so eloquently stated by Bob Bellamy, Associate state Superintendent of Georgia, “Technology will never replace the teacher, but the teacher who knows and can use technology will replace the teacher who can’t.” For help achieving your education goals, visit www.learnkey.com/education.
