Are mobile phone radiation dangerous...or not? what's the verdict?

By ShockExcite Media Sdn Bhd

Hello ShockExciterz!

Oh yes, all well i hope? you know what? we're kind of getting tired of the debates, results and news about mobile phone radiation..so, tell me..is it harmful..or not to us...whatever it is..i'm still stuck to it like part of me..fortunately ..there's always good old SMS...

Phew..coming back to the point...
is mobile phone radiation dangerous or not?

Japan's major Mobile operators (NTT DoCoMo, KDDI, Vodafone and TU-KA Cellular Tokyo), who reported that radio frequency energy from mobile base stations does not affect human cells. They exposed four human cell lines to steady doses of RF radiation at a level about 10 times stronger than the limits set forth in the guidelines for mobile phone base stations, which themselves are again stronger than the emissions from the average phone.

All of which sounds very promising, and if only it weren't for that nagging fact that the entire study was funded by the mobile carriers, and used research techniques developed by the Mobile carriers, we might be tempted to put an end to this for good — but we'll leave our tinfoil hats on until we see some independent studies confirm this.

Interested to know how they managed to conduct the research? well..the research uses an in vitro exposure system developed by NTT DoCoMo.

The exposure system generates a 2GHz-band Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (W-CDMA) modulated-signal RF fields that meet the IMT-2000 specifications for third generation (3G) mobile communications. (Login to NTT Docomo for more information on this..)

Even organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) GENERALLY agrees that there is no scientific evidence that radio waves from mobile phones and base stations have any effect on people's health. Nevertheless, WHO has recommended further research with respect to the safety of these waves and, in response, the four companies started examining the biological effect of microwave exposure from mobile phones and base stations since November 2002.

Mitsubishi Chemical Safety Institute Ltd., which has extensive experience in safety tests using cell cultures and microorganisms, provided support for the research. In addition, biochemical aspects of the research were commissioned to Professor Junji Miyakoshi of Hirosaki University and engineering aspects to Professor Toshio Nojima of Hokkaido University.

The findings will be announced at the Bioelectromagnetics (BEMS) Annual Meeting 2005 from 19-24 June in Ireland and have also been submitted to the BEMS Journal.

The study has already been registered in the WHO database. The companies intend to continue their research and publish further results.

The study was conducted in accordance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards for equipment, instruments, organizations, personnel and procedural documentation used in safety evaluation tests of pharmaceuticals, chemicals and other products. In Japan, GLP standards for various fields are established by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the Ministry of Environment and others.

We're interested and now doing some research regarding the same problem, as we all know it..whether mobile radiation actually causes explosion at petrol stations. However, although being a little cautious and "kiasu" won't hurt anyone..I still see ignorant people leaving their engines on while they fill up their tanks..if they cared so much of handsets causing explosions, why in the world won't they think about how dangerous it is to leave the dang car ignition off before filling it up?, oops..out of line..but its relevant no?
